HOBOKEN, N.J. – William Paterson (2-1-1) dominated play early against No. 18 Stevens (2-1-1), but neither team could get on the scoreboard during a 0-0 double-overtime result in the first round of the Stevens Men's Soccer College Classic Sept. 10.

William Paterson dictated play in the game's first 45 minutes as the Ducks had trouble mounting any serious attack at the Pioneer defense and junior goalkeeper Zach Collins (Bayville, N.J./Central Regional). William Paterson went into the break with a 2-1 edge in corners and each squad took four shots during the first half.

In the second period, Stevens was more dangerous and generated several strong chances at the goal, including a Victor Daza corner-kick header just wide in the 61st minute.

Several moments later, senior Nolan Sandberg ripped a shot from two yards inside the box that missed just high, and with about 24 minutes to play, Zach Adler sent a free kick from 23 yards away inches over the crossbar in a great bid for the game winner.

During the two overtimes, both teams had solid chances, but nothing came close to finding the back of the net for either side. One of the best opportunities came from sophomore Naeem Boucher (Paterson, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep), but his shot attempt was snuffed out by a sliding Duck defender.

Collins was credited with three saves on the night, while Stevens keeper Zach Carr, who collected his 41st career shutout, made six stops.

William Paterson will face Arcadia in the second round of the Stevens College Classic Saturday, Sept. 11, at 5:00 p.m.
