NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – No. 14/14 William Paterson (7-0) remained perfect in women's basketball play with a 71-59 victory at New Paltz (3-4) Dec. 8. Junior guard BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) posted 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, while junior forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) contributed 21 tallies and 11 rebounds for the Pioneers.

Trailing 12-10 with 13:44 remaining in the first half, William Paterson went on an 8-0 run that was capped by a three-pointer by Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville). New Paltz point guard Kaitlin Clifford nailed a jumper to cut the Pioneer advantage to four at 20-16 with 7:44 left in the first period, but William Paterson ended the half on a 15-9 tear.

William Paterson led 35-25 at the break and prevented New Paltz from getting much closer for the first six minutes of the new stanza. The Hawks, however, got within three at 12:43, as Shanay Bradley netted four points off two layups to bring the tally to 43-40 in favor of the Pioneers. Despite generating a number of scoring opportunities, New Paltz could not even the score down the stretch, and William Paterson registered its largest lead of the night at the buzzer, as Dana Jeter (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) found a wide open Jewell Palmer (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) underneath the basket, and Palmer drained an easy bucket.

Callander finished with 10 points and Palmer had eight tallies and eight boards. The Pioneers made up for 15-for-43 (.349) shooting from inside the arc with a 7-for-15 (.467) effort from three-point range.

Alex McCullough led the Hawks with 18 points. Bradley contributed 10 tallies and 19 rebounds.
