Gabriel Paul (Newark, N.J./Hillside) posted a game-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, while junior guard
Paul Siljee (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) had 18 tallies and a game-best nine rebounds, to help lead the William Paterson men's basketball team (7-4) to a 66-56 win at City College of New York (2-8) Dec. 30.
Both Paul and Siljee were 6-for-11 (.545) from the field for the Pioneers. Junior guard
Joey Castro (West Paterson, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) added 11 points and four assists.
William Paterson used 6-for-9 (.667) shooting from three-point range to help forge a 30-23 halftime edge. A 7-1 run allowed CCNY to briefly take a one-point lead (40-39, 13:51), and the Beavers were ahead by a 50-48 count with 8:05 on the clock before a pair of Castro free throws started a 12-0 Pioneer burst, putting WP firmly in control at 60-50 with 3:57 remaining.
The Pioneers used a 45-26 advantage on the boards (16-7 offensive) for a 17-4 edge in second-chance points, and finished 9-for-14 (.643) from beyond the arc.
Xavier Gonzalez was the only CCNY player in double figures with 12 points.
William Paterson will return home Wednesday, Jan. 5, to face Rutgers-Newark at 6:00 p.m.
