PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville (4-1) used an 8-0 run early in the second half to break open a 27-27 game at halftime, defeating visiting William Paterson (3-2) by a 67-54 score in men's basketball action Nov. 28.

Paul Siljee (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) scored a team-best 13 points for the Pioneers. Senior guard 
Gabriel Paul (Newark, N.J./Hillside) added 11 tallies, and classmate 
Shaun Canty (Carlstadt, N.J./Paramus Catholic) posted eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Knotted at 32-32 less than five minutes into the second stanza, the Valiants used a three-point play, jumper and three-pointer to build a 40-32 advantage with 12:07 left in the contest. The Pioneers twice got within four, the last time coming with 7:37 on the clock (44-40), but Manhattanville quickly answered with an 11-2 run to take control at 55-42 with 5:18 remaining. 
The two teams shot nearly identical percentages from the floor (.463 for William Paterson, .462 for Manhattanville), but the Valiants enjoyed a 26-13 advantage in points off turnovers, forcing the Pioneers into 25 miscues compared to just 13 for Manhattanville. 
Trevoy Pointer led four Valiants in double figures with 18 points. Glen Rodriguez had 14 tallies, while Peter Mehmel and Lamar Glass each posted 10.
William Paterson will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Wednesday, Dec. 1, at home against Montclair State at 8:00 p.m.
