WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (3-1) seized control from the opening tip and was never threatened by New York City Tech (0-3) during a 57-42 men's basketball decision Nov. 23 in the Pioneers' home opener.
William Paterson quickly jumped on top of New York City Tech, going on a 9-0 run to start the game. The Pioneers shot 62.5 (15-24) percent from the field while holding the Yellow Jackets to just 16 points on 30.4 (7-23) percent shooting, including an 0-7 effort from three-point range, during the first half. Despite having just five fewer turnovers (10-15), William Paterson enjoyed an 18-4 advantage in points off turnovers during the opening stanza and a 35-16 halftime lead.
In all, 14 Pioneers got into the contest as William Paterson continued to substitute liberally during the second half. City Tech got within 15 points twice after the break, but could get no closer.

Nick Allan (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) scored 13 points and classmate
Gabriel Paul (Newark, N.J./Hillside) had 12 and two blocked shots to lead the Pioneers. Junior guard
Joey Castro (West Paterson, N.J./Passaic Valley Regional) tied Paul for the team's rebounding honors with four, and added eight tallies to go along with a team-best six assists and three steals.
Junior Nathaniel Young led all scorers with 21 points. City Tech's Fitzgerald Charles chipped in a game-high six steals and 10 rebounds.
William Paterson will visit Manhattanville Sunday, Nov. 28, at 2:00 p.m.
