Football to Visit No. 22 Cortland Nov. 6

Pioneers to Face First Ranked Opponent of Season at 1:00 p.m.

William Paterson (4-4, 3-4 NJAC) will face its first ranked opponent of the season when the Pioneers visit No. 22 SUNY Cortland (7-1, 7-1 NJAC) Saturday, Nov. 6. Kickoff at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex (6,500) will be at 1:00 p.m. Live statistics, audio and video will be available.

Scouting the Pioneers
William Paterson is 4-4 overall and 3-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) after a 34-20 loss to visiting Buffalo State (2-6, 2-5 NJAC) Oct. 30. 

Sophomore Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton) is 132-for-220 for 1,309 yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions under center. He also has added two rushing touchdowns, and ranks fourth in the NJAC in passing yardage (163.6 yards/game) and total offense (176.0 yards/game). 

Sophomore tailback Dawys German (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) has carried 94 times for 320 yards (3.4 yards/carry) and two touchdowns. 

Junior Joe Muraglia, Jr. (Belleville, N.J./Queen of Peace) leads the Pioneers with 37 catches (4.6 per game, fourth in NJAC), 389 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Chris Manfredo (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) has gained 388 yards on 31 receptions. 

Junior bandit Doug Dudek (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), the 2008 NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as a 2009 second-team all-conference pick, leads the Pioneers and ranks ninth in the NJAC with 61 tackles (9.1 per game, 22 solo, 6.0 TFL, 1.5 sacks), adding three pass breakups, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a blocked punt. Dudek registered a 26-yard return of a blocked punt for a touchdown against Western Connecticut Oct. 2, and he is tied for fourth in the conference in interceptions (0.38 per game). Sophomore linebacker Jimmie Ray Ragland (Somerset, N.J./Franklin) has 51 stops (31 solo, 5.5 TFL), an interception and three pass breakups. 

A two-time second-team all-conference selection, senior defensive lineman Dyon Moore (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) owns 46 tackles (16 solo, 6.0 for loss, 1.5 sacks). Sophomore safety German Decena (Union City, N.J./Emerson) has 42 stops, four pass breakups (0.88 PD/game, tied-sixth in league) and three interceptions (0.38 per game, tied-fourth in conference). 

Senior bandit Chris Thomas (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) has added 37 tackles to his team-best seven pass breakups (0.88 passes defended/game, tied-sixth in league), fumble recovery and blocked punt, and is averaging 24.8 yards per kickoff return (45th in Division III, second in NJAC). Sophomore linebacker Luigi Napolitano, Jr. (Morris Plains, N.J./Parsippany Hills) owns 35 tackles (4.0 TFL) and an interception. 

William Paterson returned four offensive starters and eight defensive starters from a 2009 team that compiled a 5-5 overall record and a 4-5 mark in NJAC play. The Pioneers, who welcomed back five all-conference selections from a year ago, were predicted to finish fifth in the 2010 NJAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, and were the “dark horse” pick to win the title this fall.

Scouting the Red Dragons
SUNY Cortland is 7-1 overall and 7-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) after a 10-9 victory against Montclair State (7-1, 6-1 NJAC) Oct. 30. The Red Dragons are 22nd in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 Poll. 

Graduate student quarterback Dan Pitcher is 103-for-183 for 1,234 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions this fall. He is fifth in the NJAC in passing yardage (154.2 yards/game). Sophomore Justin Autera is third in the league with 109.8 yards rushing per contest (154 attempts, 878 yards, 14 touchdowns). Senior Anthony Giuliano has caught 35 passes for 561 yards and five scores, ranking second in the NJAC in receiving yards/game (70.1). 

Junior linebacker Cody Allen leads Cortland with 73 tackles (35 solo, 6.0 for loss, 3.5 sacks), or 9.1 per game to rate fourth in the conference. He has added an interception and two pass breakups. Junior linebacker Bill Smith has 56 stops (25 solo), a fumble recovery and an interception, and senior defensive lineman Lou Crispo has added 47 tackles (16 solo, 5.0 for loss) and three blocked kicks. 

SUNY Cortland was 7-4 overall and 7-2 in the NJAC a year ago, falling to St. John Fisher, 34-20, in the ECAC Northwest Bowl. The Red Dragons were picked to finish first in the 2010 NJAC Coaches' Preseason Poll.
