Box Score

NEWARK, N.J. – No. 15 William Paterson (11-2-4, 7-0-1 NJAC) clinched a first-round bye and a home semifinal match in the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Women's Soccer Tournament with a 3-0 victory at Rutgers-Newark (6-9-3, 2-4-2 NJAC) Oct. 23.

William Paterson leads the NJAC standings with 22 points, while The College of New Jersey (7-1, 21 points) and Rowan (7-1, 21) are tied for second. The Pioneers would own any potential tiebreakers after earning 1-0 wins earlier this season against both the Lions and the Profs, and therefore can finish no lower than second with one league regular-season match remaining. TCNJ will host Rowan Oct. 26, and William Paterson will host Kean (2-3-3 NJAC) Oct. 27, to finish the regular-season slate. The top two teams receive byes for first-round contests to be held Oct. 30, and will host semifinal contests Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Sophomore Michelle Marabondo (Kenvil, N.J./Roxbury) scored twice and provided an assist as the Pioneers extended their unbeaten streak to 15 matches with the victory at Rutgers-Newark. She broke the scoreless tie when she picked up a loose ball and fired from 15 yards out, finding the inside of the right post in the 38th minute. She then ran on to a through ball from Ashley Grabowski (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) in the 55th minute and beat charging Scarlet Raider goalie Kat Renteria, handing William Paterson a 2-0 edge.

Marabondo's cross allowed sophomore Sophie Hart-Ruderman (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) an easy putaway in the 64th minute, her third goal of the season. Freshman Alyssa Falduto (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) did not need to make a save for her eighth shutout of the season, thanks to a 28-10 Pioneer advantage in shots. Renteria had nine stops for Rutgers-Newark.

The Pioneers will celebrate Senior Day Wednesday, Oct. 27, against Kean at 4:00 p.m.
