Volleyball Upends York, Centenary

Pioneers Sweep Both Contests of Home Tri-Match

Junior Kim Runge had team bests of 12 kills and 15 digs against Centenary.

WAYNE, N.J. – William Paterson (19-5) upended visiting York (N.Y.) and Centenary to sweep a home volleyball tri-match Oct. 23. The Pioneers opened with a 25-7, 25-10, 25-20 victory against the Cardinals (5-16), and got past the Cyclones (9-19), 25-22, 25-13, 25-20. Centenary defeated York, 25-12, 25-6, 25-7, in the middle match of the day.

Against York, senior Michelle Leeder (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) led William Paterson with seven kills, chipping in five digs. Junior Kim Runge (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) added four kills to her team-best six digs, and sophomore Kelly Shaw (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) posted four kills and five service aces. Senior Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) contributed 11 assists.

Runge paced the Pioneers with 12 kills and 15 digs against Centenary. Junior Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) collected seven kills, 15 assists and 12 digs, and Shaw had four kills and three solo blocks. Leeder added eight kills and Bronowich had eight assists and six digs.

William Paterson will celebrate Senior Night Thursday, Oct. 28, against Kean at 7:00 p.m.
