Volleyball Rallies for 3-1 Win against MSMC

Trailing 0-5 to Open Fourth, Pioneers Come Away with 25-21 Victory

WAYNE, N.J. – Trailing 5-0 to start the fourth set, William Paterson (16-5) rallied for a 25-21 victory and an overall 3-1 match win against visiting Mount Saint Mary (15-9) Oct. 19.

The Pioneers won the opening two sets, 25-20 and 25-19, before the Knights jumped out to a 12-3 edge en route to a 25-11 win in the third. Trailing 5-0 to open the fourth, William Paterson put together a run to get to 5-6, but Mount Saint Mary scored four of the next five points to surge ahead, 6-10. But, the Pioneers had an answer, riding the serve of junior Kim Runge (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) for nine consecutive points and a 15-10 lead. The Knights got as close as two at 22-20, but William Paterson closed out the match with a Kelly Shaw (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) kill and a poor MSMC set on the final point for the 25-21 win.

Junior Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) contributed 17 kills, 12 assists and seven digs for the Pioneers. Runge and sophomore Michelle Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) each had 16 digs, senior Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) posted 16 assists and 10 digs, senior Michelle Leeder (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) chipped in 10 digs and Shaw finished with eight kills and four blocks.

Junior Jacqueline Nadeau compiled 13 kills and 10 digs for Mount Saint Mary. Sophomore Lauren Halverson pitched in 38 assists, and junior Heather Schaeffer collected 13 digs.

William Paterson will visit Montclair State Thursday, Oct. 21, at 7:00 p.m.
