Tennis Loses Nail-Biter on Senior Day, 5-4

Pioneers Lose to Visiting Lancaster Bible

WAYNE, N.J. – It came down to the final match, but the William Paterson tennis team (4-6) could not pull out the victory, losing 5-4 to Lancaster Bible (5-5) on Senior Day Oct. 11 at the William Paterson Tennis Courts.

The Pioneers won four of the singles matches, but could not come up with a fifth victory to take the team win. Freshman Mary Skretkowicz (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) won 6-1, 6-4 at second singles, and senior Delnaz Shalforoosh (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) had a 6-4, 0-6, 16-10 victory at third. Freshman Justine Lawson (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland Regional) posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory at fourth singles, and senior Evelyn Tam (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) contributed a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

Prior to the match, William Paterson honored seniors Shalforoosh and Tam.

The Pioneers will finish their season Saturday, Oct. 16, at Richard Stockton at 12:00 p.m.
