Scouting the Pioneers
William Paterson is 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) after a 31-28 home victory against Morrisville State (1-4, 1-3 NJAC) Oct. 9. The Pioneers are off to their best start to a season since the 1992 campaign, when William Paterson charged out to a 5-0 mark en route to an 8-2 final record.
Sophomore
Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton) is 82-for-134 for 880 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions under center. He also added a rushing touchdown of four yards during the 14-7 win against King's Sept. 18, and he ranks second in the NJAC in passing yards/game (176.0) and total offense (183.4 yards/game).
Freshman
Ray VanPeenen (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) leads the ground game with 81 rushing attempts for 253 yards (3.1 yards/carry) and four scores, has caught seven passes for 59 yards, and has punted 13 times for an average of 34.8 yards (sixth in league). Sophomore tailback
Dawys German (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) has carried 58 times for 238 yards (4.1 yards/carry) and two touchdowns.
Junior
Joe Muraglia, Jr. (Belleville, N.J./Queen of Peace) leads the Pioneers with 27 catches (5.4 per game, fourth in NJAC), tallying 294 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore

Junior bandit
Doug Dudek (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills), the 2008 NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as a 2009 second-team all-conference pick, leads the Pioneers with 38 tackles (11 solo, 4.0 TFL), adding a pass breakup, and one fumble recovery. Damian DiIorio (Totowa, N.J./Passaic Valley) has collected 24 stops (seven solo, 1.0 sack) and two fumble recoveries (0.40/game, tied-first in conference), including one for a 35-yard touchdown against King's on Sept. 18.

Chris Thomas (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) has added 23 tackles to his team-best six pass breakups (1.20 passes defended/game, tied-second in league) and blocked punt, and is averaging 28.4 yards per kickoff return (second in NJAC, 15th in Division III). Sophomore linebacker

William Paterson returned four offensive starters and eight defensive starters from a 2009 team that compiled a 5-5 overall record and a 4-5 mark in NJAC play. The Pioneers, who welcomed back five all-conference selections from a year ago, were predicted to finish fifth in the 2010 NJAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, and were the “dark horse” pick to win the title this fall.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
Brockport is 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) after a 35-0 loss at No. 19 Cortland (5-0, 5-0 NJAC) Oct. 9.
Sophomore quarterback Joseph Scibilia is 58-for-95 for 560 yards, three touchdowns and nine interceptions this fall. Junior Alex Henrickson has carried 72 times for 410 yards and two touchdowns (5.7 yards/attempt; 82.0 yards/game, fifth in NJAC). He leads the conference with 186.8 total yards of offense per game. Senior Riedrick Alceus has picked up 396 yards and scored six times on 67 attempts (5.9 yards/carry; 79.2 yards/game, sixth in league). Sophomore Jordan Hogan has caught 22 passes for 343 yards and two scores.
Senior linebacker Nate Bull leads the NJAC with 58 tackles, including 6.5 for loss (1.30 per game, tied-third in league), and two fumble recoveries (0.40 per game, tied-second in conference). Junior linebacker Derek DeCandia has 37 stops (17 solo, 2.5 sacks), an interception, one fumble recovered and a blocked kick.
Brockport was 4-6 overall and 3-6 in the NJAC a year ago. The Golden Eagles were picked to finish sixth in the 2010 NJAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
