WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore setter/outside hitter
Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) just missed out on a triple-double, tallying 11 kills, 12 assists and nine digs as the William Paterson volleyball team (7-3, 1-1 NJAC) earned a 3-0 victory against visiting New Jersey City (3-8, 1-1 NJAC) Sept. 22 at the Rec Center.
The first set was a close one, as neither team ever owned more than a three-point lead, before William Paterson was finally able to put away a 25-23 victory. The Pioneers cruised after that, jumping out to a 10-2 edge before winning the second set, 25-8, and scoring 12 of the first 13 points of a 25-10 third-set victory.
Junior setter
Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) had 15 assists and 11 digs for William Paterson, while senior middle/outside hitter
Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) collected nine kills and four total blocks (one solo). Senior
Amanda Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) and junior
Michelle Leeder (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) each added eight digs.
Senior Melissa Loo led the Gothic Knights with seven kills, adding seven digs. Junior Alex Johanesen contributed 16 assists, and freshman Amanda Dopico led New Jersey City with 16 digs.
William Paterson will visit Kean Thursday, Sept. 24, for a match at 7:00 p.m. NJCU will host Montclair State Sept. 24, also at 7:00 p.m.
