WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson volleyball team (5-2) pulled away from visiting Cedar Crest (3-3) for a 3-0 victory Sept. 17 at the Rec Center.
Trailing 4-5, senior
Amanda Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) served seven straight points to help the Pioneers win the first set, 25-17. The Pioneers then opened up an 18-9 lead en route to a 25-14 victory during the second set, and finished off the win with a 25-16 triumph in the third set.
Sophomore setter/outside hitter
Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) notched a double-double for William Paterson with 11 kills and 11 assists, adding three service aces and six digs. Senior middle/outside hitter
Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) collected nine kills and nine digs, and junior setter
Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) compiled eight assists in just two sets. Freshman
Liz Dykhouse (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) added four assists and a pair of digs during the third set.
Senior Kelly Oakes had eight kills and classmate Mackenzie Lee posted seven kills for Cedar Crest. Junior Lauren Seale collected a match-high 16 assists and senior Amanda Dombroski paced the Falcons with seven digs.
The Pioneers will host a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 19, taking on York (N.Y.) at 11:00 a.m. and Polytechnic at 3:00 p.m.
