NEWBURGH, N.Y. – William Paterson improved to 4-1 this season with a pair of volleyball victories at Mount Saint Mary Sept. 12. The Pioneers defeated the host Blue Knights 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-15) and the Manhattanville Valiants 3-1 (21-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-16).

During the opening match against MSMC, senior middle/outside hitter Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) contributed 15 kills and 10 digs, while junior Michelle Leeder (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) and freshman Kelly Shaw (Wallington, N.J./Wallington) each tallied five kills. Sophomore setter/outside hitter Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) added six kills and 17 assists.

In the four-set victory against the Valiants, Maher posted 21 assists, 12 kills and 22 digs, Helfrich chipped in 21 kills and 17 digs, and Leeder posted seven kills and nine digs.

The Pioneers will begin New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play Tuesday, Sept. 15, with a home match against Ramapo at 7:00 p.m.
