WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson men's swimming and diving team (10-2, 2-2 NJAC) finished its dual-meet season with a 163-137 victory against Montclair State (6-7, 1-3 NJAC) on Senior Day Feb. 7 at Wightman Pool.
The Pioneers, ahead by only three points entering the second diving event, received strong performances from several individuals. Senior
David Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) was a triple winner, touching first in the 500 (5:09.85) and 1,000 (10:50.81) frees as well as the 200 fly (2:12.76). Junior
Voyta Karas (Brno, Czech Republic) also won three individual events, taking first place in the 50 (22.22), 100 (48.94) and 200 (1:50.10) frees.
Senior
Michael O'Shea (Edgewater, N.J./Leonia) finished first in the one-meter required (115.95) and optional (231.85) dives. Junior
Kirk Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) added a winning effort in the 200 IM (1:42.72).
The 200 medley relay team of
Stefan Rosales (Rahway, N.J./St. Joseph's-Metuchen), Smith,
Jeremy Lim (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) and
Evan Seftel (Montville, N.J./Montville) posted a winning time of 1:42.72. The 400 free relay team of Karas, Caputo,
Jordan McGrath (Edgewater Park, N.J./Burlington City) and Seftel also got to the wall first in a time of 3:19.96.
Caputo, O'Shea and
Michael Ehlers (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) were honored as part of the Pioneers' Senior Day activities.
William Paterson will next compete Feb. 20-22 at the Metropolitan Championships at Rutgers University in Piscataway.
