Ellis Scores 23 Points as Men's Basketball Defeats Lehman

Pioneers Earn 70-52 Victory against Lightning

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior Joseph Ellis (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) scored 23 points and classmate Tim Lucas (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) added 16 as the William Paterson men's basketball team (9-1) defeated visiting Lehman (3-7), 70-52, Dec. 17.

Ellis added four assists and four steals for the Pioneers, while Lucas had four and three, respectively. Senior Bobby Dunn (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson Regional) posted 11 tallies, six rebounds, three assists and three steals, while senior Abdoulaye Ouedraogo (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) contributed nine points and a game-best nine rebounds.

William Paterson scored eight of the first 10 points of the second half, turning a 32-31 halftime margin into a 40-33 lead (17:45). The Lightning rallied to twice get within a point, but the Pioneers answered with an 11-1 spurt for a 55-44 edge with 8:41 remaining, and finished the contest with a 13-1 run for the final 18-point victory.

Sophomore Mathias Raggiotto led Lehman with 14 points. Junior Xavier Garvin added 13 tallies and four steals for the Lightning.

The Pioneers will return to action Tuesday, Dec. 29, against Buffalo State at the CCNY Tournament. Tip-off will be at 5:00 p.m.
