Men's Basketball Cruises to 30-Point Victory

Pioneers Defeat Moravian at Scotty Wood Tournament

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – William Paterson (2-0) advanced to the final of Muhlenberg's Scotty Wood Tournament with a 75-45 first-round victory against Moravian (0-2) Nov. 20.

The Greyhounds scored the first three points of the game, but the Pioneers quickly responded by dropping in the next eight tallies on their way to a 17-12 edge. Moravian fought back to pull ahead 20-17, but it was the last time the Greyhounds would hold a lead as William Paterson went on a 10-2 run and owned a 37-25 edge at the break.

The Pioneers scored the first eight tallies of the second period and steadily built a 33-point (75-42, 1:02) advantage. William Paterson shot 50.0 (27-54) percent from the floor overall and 4-for-9 (.444) from three-point range while out-rebounding the Greyhounds by a 31-23 count.

Senior Tim Lucas (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) scored a game-high 19 points to go along with a tournament-record nine steals. Senior Joseph Ellis (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) added 10 points and three assists, and classmate Abdoulaye Ouedraogo (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) contributed five tallies and a game-best seven rebounds. Junior Gabriel Paul (Hillside, N.J./Hillside), senior Eric Moore (Dover, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) and junior Shaun Canty (Englewood, N.J./Paramus Catholic) each chipped in eight points.

William Paterson will face the winner of Friday's Muhlenberg/Oneonta State first-round game Saturday, Nov. 21, in the championship game of the Scotty Wood Tournament at 8:00 p.m.
