Women's Swimming Gets First Victory

Pioneers Win at St. Joseph's-Long Island, 103-85

Lauren Horowitz won the 500 (6:04.33) and 1,000 (12:20.44) frees against the Golden Eagles.
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – William Paterson (1-1) earned its first women's swimming and diving victory of the season with a 103-85 win at St. Joseph's-Long Island (0-1) Oct. 27.

Junior Lauren Horowitz (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was a double winner, touching first in the 500 (6:04.33) and 1,000 (12:20.44) frees. Senior Caitlin Rotondo (Brick, N.J./Methacton) also won a pair of events, finishing first in the 50 (26.92) and 100 (59.82) frees, as did sophomore Brett Kuchin (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) in the 200 IM (2:28.93) and the 100 breast (1:13.64). Freshman Donna Balagtas (Clifton, N.J./Clifton) earned her first college victory in the 100 back (1:11.29), sophomore Lesly Mendoza (Passaic, N.J./Paramus Catholic) touched first in the 200 free (2:16.59), and sophomore Stephanie Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) was the winner of the 100 fly (1:07.72).

William Paterson will return to action Thursday, Oct. 29, when the men's and women's teams host Baruch at 5:30 p.m.
