Volleyball Falls to NJAC-Leading Stockton

Pioneers Lose in Three Sets

POMONA, N.J. – Richard Stockton (19-10, 7-0 NJAC) swept visiting William Paterson (15-6, 4-3 NJAC), 25-16, 25-17, 25-18, Oct. 20 to remain unbeaten in conference volleyball play.

Christine Velott led the Ospreys with 18 kills, while Stephanie Warner and Anna Streicher added nine kills apiece. Laura Hausman dished 22 assists in the match. Stockton notched its 20th consecutive win over a NJAC opponent with the victory against the Pioneers.

Senior Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) paced William Paterson with a team-high 11 kills plus nine digs and three blocks. Sophomore Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) contributed 15 digs and nine assists for the Pioneers.

Velott sparked Stockton to a 25-16 win in the first set with seven kills. Michelle Leeder (Ridgefield, N.J./Ridgefield Memorial) and Helfrich countered with five kills apiece in the set for William Paterson. Warner served four aces and Velott tallied four kills as the Ospreys took the second set, 25-17. In the third set, Velott and Warner carried the Stockton offense with seven and five kills, respectively, as the Ospreys finished the sweep by a 25-18 score.

William Paterson will celebrate Senior Night and host St. Joseph's-Long Island on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7:00 p.m.
