Scouting the Pioneers
William Paterson is 3-3 overall and 2-3 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play following a 43-28 Homecoming win against The College of New Jersey (4-2, 3-2 NJAC) Oct. 17.
Senior
Matt Marshall (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City), who tossed a school-record 20 touchdown passes a year ago, is 95-for-166 for 1,094 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions this season. Marshall enters the Cortland game one shy of matching the William Paterson career touchdown passes record of 28 established by Robert Pirmann (1975-78). Marshall currently is sixth in passing yardage (182.3 yards/game) and seventh in total offense (181.8 yards/game) in the conference statistics.
The current NJAC Offensive Player of the Week as well as the league's leading rusher (103.3 yards/game, 42nd in Division III), sophomore
Marcus McKinney (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) has gained 620 yards on 150 carries (4.1 yards/attempt) and scored seven touchdowns to lead the ground game, including a school-record 42 attempts against TCNJ last week. McKinney ranks third in all-purpose yardage (108.2 yards/game) and 11th in total offense (103.3 yards/game) in the conference statistics. Classmate
Corey Paladino (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) has rushed 38 times for 107 yards and one score.
Senior
Joel Rivera (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken), who established new Pioneer records with his 74 receptions for 965 yards to earn 2008 first-team all-NJAC and second-team all-region accolades, currently has 31 catches for 477 yards and five TDs. With his 14-yard TD catch at Montclair State Oct. 3, Rivera became the Pioneers' all-time career touchdown receptions leader with 17 (currently 19). He needs 10 receptions and 166 yards to match the career records of 149 and 2,101 established by Kareen Moon (2004-07). Rivera is second in the NJAC stats in both receptions/game (5.2) and receiving yards/game (79.5).

Chris Schule (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) has added 20 catches for 229 yards and two scores. Junior fullback
Derrik Rideg (Rochelle Park, N.J./Paramus Catholic), who was an honorable-mention all-league selection after catching 19 passes for 189 yards a year ago, currently has 17 receptions for 124 yards.
Junior linebacker
Jim Hamill (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) paces William Paterson with 59 tackles (30 solo, 3.0 TFL), or 9.8 per game to rank second in the conference statistics, while adding an interception. A second-team all-NJAC honoree a year ago, junior defensive end
Dyon Moore (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) has made 44 tackles (20 solo, 9.5 TFL) and forced a fumble. He is tied for fifth in the league statistics in tackles for loss (1.58 TFL/game) and is ninth overall in tackles (7.3 per game). Senior defensive end
Keith Sayball (Milford, Conn./Foran), the Oct. 11 NJAC and ECAC Southeast Defensive Player of the Week, has 42 tackles (18 solo, 9.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks) and a forced fumble while ranking tied for fifth in the NJAC in tackles for loss (1.58 TFL/game) and tied for ninth in sacks (0.42 sack/game).

Doug Dudek (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) has 41 stops (15 solo, 5.5 TFL), an interception, two passes-broken-up, a fumble forced and a fumble recovery. Sophomore

Freshman placekicker
Ryan Brzycki (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) is 5-for-7 on field-goal attempts (.714, third in NJAC) and 13-for-14 on PATs (.929, second in league). Junior defensive back
Chris Thomas (West Milford, N.J./West Milford), who has 15 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble, leads the NJAC in punt return average (11.0 yards/return, tied-35th in Division III).
William Paterson returned nine offensive starters and seven defensive starters, including seven all-conference selections, from a 2008 team that compiled a 4-6 overall record and a 3-6 mark in NJAC play. The Pioneers were picked to finish seventh in the 2009 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
Scouting the Red Dragons
Cortland is 4-2 both overall and in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 35-6 home victory against Western Connecticut (0-6, 0-5 NJAC) Oct. 17.
The projected starter at quarterback, Alex Smith is 3-for-7 for 51 yards, one touchdown and an interception in two appearances. Junior Dom Sair leads the Red Dragons with 59 carries for 301 yards (5.1 yards/carry) and eight touchdowns (tied for second in NJAC), including 20 attempts for 163 yards and two scores against WestConn.
Junior Anthony Giuliano has caught a team-high 22 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns, while senior Eric Hajnos has 20 receptions for 243 yards and two scores.
Senior defensive lineman Bryan Wiley is the team's leading tackler with 51 stops (27 solo; 8.5 tackles/game, sixth in NJAC), including a league-best 8.0 sacks (tied-fourth in Division III). He ranks second in the NJAC with 2.33 tackles for loss/game (tied-third in NCAA). Sophomore linebacker Cody Allen has made 41 tackles (21 solo, 3.5 TFL), while junior linebacker Will Schroeder has added 39 stops (18 solo, 6.0 TFL, 2.5 sacks). Senior defensive lineman Evan Wyler is third in the league in both sacks/game (1.08) and TFL/game (1.83), forcing two fumbles while making 33 tackles.
Sophomore placekicker Marc Corrado is 2-for-4 (.500) on field-goal attempts, and 18-for-20 (.900) on PATs.
Cortland was 11-2 overall and 9-0 in NJAC play last year, reaching the quarterfinals of the NCAA Playoffs. The Red Dragons were picked to finish second in the 2009 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
