Scouting the Pioneers
William Paterson is 2-3 overall and 1-3 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play following a 14-2 win at Morrisville State (1-5, 1-4 NJAC) Oct. 10.
Freshman
Ryan Gresik (Newton, N.J./Newton) made his first career start under center a week ago, and in three appearances this season he has completed seven of 19 passes for 80 yards. Senior
Matt Marshall (Burlington, N.J./Burlington City), who tossed a school-record 20 touchdown passes a year ago, is 82-for-143 for 856 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He ranks seventh in both passing yardage (171.2 yards/game) and total offense (173.4yards/game) in the conference statistics.
Sophomore
Marcus McKinney (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) has gained 396 yards on 108 carries (3.7 yards/attempt) and scored three touchdowns to lead the ground game, including a school-record 35 attempts at King's Sept. 19. His 79.2 rushing yards per game rank third in the NJAC. Classmate
Corey Paladino (Lodi, N.J./Lodi) has rushed 38 times for 107 yards and one score.
Senior
Joel Rivera (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken), who established new Pioneer records with his 74 receptions for 965 yards to earn 2008 first-team all-NJAC and second-team all-region accolades, currently has 23 catches for 296 yards and three TDs. With his 14-yard TD catch at Montclair State Oct. 3, Rivera became the Pioneers' all-time career touchdown receptions leader (17). Chris Schule (Rutherford, N.J./Rutherford) has added 18 catches for 211 yards and two scores. Junior fullback
Derrik Rideg (Rochelle Park, N.J./Paramus Catholic), who was an honorable-mention all-league selection after catching 19 passes for 189 yards a year ago, currently has 17 receptions for 124 yards.

Jim Hamill (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) paces William Paterson with 51 tackles (25 solo, 3.0 TFL), or 10.2 per game to rank second in the conference statistics, while adding an interception. A second-team all-NJAC honoree a year ago, junior defensive end
Dyon Moore (Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) has made 38 tackles (18 solo, 8.0 TFL) and forced a fumble. He is tied for sixth in the league statistics in tackles for loss (1.60 TFL/game) and 10th overall in tackles (7.6 per game). Senior defensive end
Keith Sayball (Milford, Conn./Foran), the Oct. 11 NJAC and ECAC Southeast Defensive Player of the Week, has 36 tackles (16 solo, 8.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks) and a forced fumble while ranking third in the NJAC in tackles for loss (1.70 TFL/game). The 2008 NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Year,
Doug Dudek (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) has 35 stops (13 solo, 4.0 TFL), an interception, two passes-broken-up, a fumble forced and a fumble recovery.
Freshman placekicker
Ryan Brzycki (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) is 5-for-6 on field-goal attempts (.833, first in NJAC) and 8-for-9 on PATs (.889, sixth in league).
William Paterson returned nine offensive starters and seven defensive starters, including seven all-conference selections, from a 2008 team that compiled a 4-6 overall record and a 3-6 mark in NJAC play. The Pioneers were picked to finish seventh in the 2009 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
Scouting the Lions
The College of New Jersey is 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) following a 48-34 victory against Brockport (2-3, 1-3 NJAC) Oct. 10.
Senior quarterback Chris James is 90-for-135 for 1,337 yards (267.4 yards/game, first in NJAC), 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. James leads the league in passing efficiency (170.8) and ranks second in total offense (291.0 yards/game). Sophomore Justin Doniloski leads the Lions with 51 carries for 376 yards (75.2 yards/game, fifth in league) and five touchdowns (7.4 yards/attempt), while senior Chase Misiura has picked up 301 yards and five touchdowns on 49 attempts (6.1 yards/carry). Senior Colin Weber has caught 27 passes for 485 yards and six touchdowns to lead the NJAC in receiving yardage (97.0 yards/game). Classmate Mark Gardner has 13 receptions for 278 yards and two scores.
Junior defensive back Matthew Kreider is TCNJ's leading tackler with 43 stops (23 solo), adding a fumble recovered, to rank fourth in the league in tackles (8.6 per game). Sophomore linebacker Daniel DeCongelio has accumulated 41 tackles (19 solo, 3.0 TFL) and a fumble recovery, while junior linebacker Joseph Spahn has added 35 stops (20 solo, 2.5 TFL), an interception and a fumble forced. He is third in the NJAC in tackles/game (8.8).
The College of New Jersey was 4-6 overall and 4-5 in NJAC competition a year ago. The Lions were picked to finish sixth in the 2009 NJAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
