EWING, N.J. – The William Paterson softball team (22-18, 8-10 NJAC) wrapped up a bid to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament on the regular season's final day, splitting a doubleheader at The College of New Jersey (23-15, 11-7 NJAC), 3-2 and 0-6, April 26.
The Pioneers will be the sixth seed for the NJAC Tournament, and will begin play Tuesday, April 29, at top-seeded Montclair State at 4:00 p.m. The double-elimination tournament will conclude Friday-Sunday, May 2-4 with all games being conducted at Montclair State.
William Paterson's
Nicole Jimmerson (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning of Game One to break a 1-1 tie, lifting the Pioneers to the win. The Lions got one of those runs back in the latter half of the inning as Lauren Musacchia doubled in Kathy Sikora.

Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) tossed a complete game to pick up the victory (6-4), striking out four Lions. On the mound for TCNJ, sophomore Ashley Minervini took the loss after going the distance.
The Pioneers got on the board right off the bat as
Kate Braun (Philadelphia, Pa./Gloucester Catholic) led off the game with a double and came around to score on a base hit by Jimmerson. TCNJ got that run back in the last of the third as Christina Lizzi picked up an infield single that plated freshman Colleen Cawley to knot the score at 1-1.
Jimmerson went 3-for-4 for the Pioneers with three RBI. For the Lions, sophomore Ellen Seavers finished with a pair of hits.
Freshman Alex Sietsma hurled a two-hit shutout for the Lions with six strikeouts during the second game of the day. The win was her eighth of the season.
The Lions got off to a fast start in the second game, scoring three times in the top of the first. Camille Heller started the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Seavers, who led off with a double. Sophomore Rachel Greeby drove in the next run with a double, while Kelly Armstrong singled in the other.
Seavers remained hot at the plate, making it 5-0 with a RBI-double in the second and a run-scoring single in the fourth. TCNJ added another run in the fifth as sophomore Danielle Hagel singled home a run, making it 6-0.
Seavers finished the game going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. For William Paterson,
Meghan Reilly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) and
Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) each had a hit.
Vitale got the start for the second straight game for the Pioneers, but was replaced by
Kerrie Mascarelli (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills), who finished out the game.
