CENTER VALLEY, PA. – The William Paterson softball team (21-17) lost a pair of games at DeSales (20-12), 7-3 and 10-1 (six innings), April 24.

WP took an early 2-0 lead in the first game after a two-run Kelly Lauter (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) double in the second, but DeSales answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, followed by four scores in the fifth for a 5-2 lead. The Pioneers cut that advantage to two following a Kate Braun (Philadelphia, Pa./Gloucester Catholic) RBI-single before the Bulldogs finished the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Five different William Paterson players each had a hit. Freshman Kerrie Mascarelli (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) took the loss (3-3), allowing 10 hits and seven runs (six earned) in 6.0 innings.

William Paterson again took the early lead, crossing the plate once during the first inning of Game Two when Nicole Jimmerson (North Bergen, N.J./High Tech) trotted home after an error, but DeSales scored three times in the second to take control of the contest. Jimmerson, Heather Mendez (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) accounted for the Pioneers' three hits. Sophomore Danielle Ballard (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) fell to 2-4 after giving up eight runs (six earned) in 4.1 innings inside the circle.

William Paterson, tied for the sixth and final NJAC Tournament berth, will conclude the regular season Saturday, April 26, with a doubleheader at The College of New Jersey at 1:00 p.m.
