Softball Splits Final Pair in Florida

Pioneers Defeat Macalester, Fall to Springfield

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The William Paterson softball team (7-5) finished play at the Rebel Spring Games March 21, losing to Springfield, 6-1, and defeating Macalester, 10-4.

Against Springfield, freshman Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) was 2-for-3 with a double, while sophomore Casey Sierra (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland Regional) drove in the Pioneers' lone run with a seventh-inning single. Vitale suffered the loss inside the circle (1-2), allowing six runs and 14 hits in 7.0 innings, striking out five.

William Paterson took an early lead in its game against Macalester, scoring four runs in the top of the first and three in the second. Junior Ana Abourashed (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and five RBI. Freshman Jillian Mullderig (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) was 3-for-4, and freshman Lindsey Nadolny (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) had a double and three RBI.

Senior Diana Schraer (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) improved to 5-1 after giving up four hits and four runs (two earned) in 6.0 innings. Freshman Jaclyn Reilly (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) threw a perfect seventh inning of relief.

William Paterson will return to action Wednesday, March 26, playing a doubleheader at Manhattanville at 3:00 p.m.
