KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The William Paterson softball team (4-0) earned victories against Bethany, 6-1, and Carthage, 8-2, March 16 at the Rebel Spring Games.
The Pioneers scored one run in the first, three in the third and another single run in the fourth to take a commanding 5-0 lead against Bethany. Freshman
Lindsey Nadolny (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) was 3-for-4 with four RBI, a double and two triples to lead the Pioneers. Sophomore
Katelyn Braun (Philadelphia, Pa./Gloucester Catholic) was 2-for-2 with a triple and four runs scored. Senior
Diana Schraer (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) picked up the victory (2-0), allowing one unearned run and a walk while scattering six hits and striking out six in 7.0 innings.
William Paterson jumped out to an early lead against Carthage, scoring five runs in the top of the third. Junior
Meghan Reilly's (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) triple plated three runs, Nadolny drove her in with a single, and Nadolny later scored on a double-steal play.
Carthage responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but freshman
Tara Perez (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) doubled in classmate
Jenna Vitale (Kenilworth, N.J./David Brearley) in the sixth, and the Pioneers scored two more in the seventh when sophomore
Christina Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) stole home, and Vitale singled in Reilly.
Vitale was 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, and Reilly was 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. Zippler was also 2-for-4, scoring a pair of runs.
Freshman
Kerrie Mascarelli (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) earned her first victory inside the circle (1-0), giving up two unearned runs and 10 hits in 7.0 innings, striking out five while walking one.
William Paterson will face Framingham State (11:00 a.m.) and Endicott (3:00 p.m.) on Monday, March 17.
