Football to Celebrate Senior Day, Finish Season Nov. 15

Pioneers will Host Western Connecticut at 1:00 p.m.

The Pioneers will celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Nov. 15, when they host Western Connecticut.

William Paterson (3-6, 2-6 NJAC) will celebrate Senior Day and conclude regular-season play when the Pioneers host Western Connecticut (2-7, 2-6 NJAC) Saturday, Nov. 15. Kickoff at Wightman Stadium (3,000) will be at 1:00 p.m. Live online statistics will be available at www.wpupioneers.com, and William Paterson's student radio station, 88.7 FM, will provide a live broadcast available on www.wpradio887.org.


Prior to the contest, the Pioneers will honor their nine seniors -- offensive lineman Jeffrey Arista (6-2, 295, Paterson, N.J./Passaic Tech), defensive back Dion Benjamin (6-0, 200, North Plainfield, N.J./Plainfield), linebacker Mike Lamego (6-1, 235, North Arlington, N.J./Queen of Peace), defensive lineman Nick Martinez (6-0, 235, North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen), defensive back Wilson Medina (6-0, 190, West New York, N.J./Memorial), offensive lineman Lew Porchiazzo (5-9, 245, Colonia, N.J./Colonia), running back Shaun Puluse (5-10, 210, Haledon, N.J./Passaic Tech), wide receiver/punter Victor Soares (6-3, 190, Paterson, N.J./Monmouth Regional), and defensive back Corey Stanton (6-0, 200, Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park).

SCOUTING WILLIAM PATERSON
William Paterson is 3-6 overall and 2-6 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play following a 28-21 loss at Kean (6-3, 5-3 NJAC) Nov. 8. 

Junior Matt Marshall (6-3, 195, Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) is 166-for-292 (.568) for 1,868 yards, 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions under center. The Pioneers' single-season touchdown passes record holder, he ranks sixth in the NJAC in passing yards/game (207.6 yards/game). 

Senior Shaun Puluse (5-10, 210, Haledon, N.J./Passaic Tech), a 2007 honorable-mention all-NJAC selection, leads the Pioneers' ground game with 135 carries for 514 yards (3.8 yards/attempt) and a score, averaging 57.1 yards/game to rank sixth in the conference. He has also caught 15 passes for 62 yards and a TD. Sophomore Marcus McKinney (5-11, 220, Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) has carried 54 times during the last six games for 254 yards (4.7 yards/attempt) and two scores, and has caught 12 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. 

Junior Joel Rivera (6-1, 190, Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken), the Sept. 28 NJAC and ECAC Southeast Region Offensive Player of the Week, has caught a league-best 66 passes (7.3 per game, tied-16th in Division III) for 881 yards and seven touchdowns. His 97.9 receiving yards/game rate second in the NJAC (32nd in NCAA), and his 117.7 all-purpose yards/game rank seventh in the conference statistics. At Rowan Sept. 27, he established new school records with 16 catches and 226 yards, and he owns the William Paterson single-season receptions and receiving yardage top marks. 

Junior linebacker and 2007 second-team all-NJAC pick Jared Burke (6-1, 220, Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) leads the Pioneers with 57 total tackles (29 solo, 10.0 TFL, 2.5 sacks). He is 15th in the NJAC in tackles/game (7.1), 13th in TFL/game (1.25), and has added a forced fumble and a blocked PAT. Sophomore defensive lineman Dyon Moore (6-2, 260, Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) has made 54 stops (25 solo, tied-22nd in NJAC with 6.0 tackles/game), and is the team leader with 13.0 TFL (1.44 pg, third in league), and 4.5 sacks (tied-ninth in NJAC). Moore, the Sept. 7 NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, is tied atop the conference statistics with three forced fumbles, and has recovered three (0.33 pg, tied-third in league), returning one for a touchdown. Junior linebacker Angelo Silletti (6-3, 235, Belleville, N.J./Hudson Catholic) has made 44 tackles (21 solo, 7.0 TFL), and junior defensive lineman Keith Sayball (6-0, 220, Milford, Conn./Foran) has made 43 stops (21 solo, 8.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks).
The Pioneers returned 51 letterwinners, eight offensive starters and six defensive starters from a 2007 team that posted a 5-5 overall record and a 3-4 mark in NJAC play. 

SCOUTING WESTERN CONNECTICUT 
The Colonials are 2-7 overall and 2-6 in NJAC play following a 30-20 loss to The College of New Jersey Nov. 8. 

Junior quarterback James Williams (6-0, 184, Wolcott, Conn./Wolcott) is 138-for-252 (.548) for 1,674 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season. He is third in the NJAC with 209.2 passing yards/game. Sophomore running back Wayne Neal (5-7, 180, Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) has carried 110 times for 268 yards (2.4 yards/carry) and five touchdowns, while senior Jason Santiago (5-9, 210, Cromwell, Conn./Cromwell) has 65 carries for 262 yards (4.0 yards/attempt) and two TDs. Sophomore Keith Rosedom (6-2, 170, Stamford, Conn./Westhill) has made a team-best 31 catches for 580 yards with six touchdowns. Senior linebacker Chad Milling (5-10, 223, Hartford, Conn./Conard) leads the Colonials' defense with 73 tackles (30 solo) to rate tied for fifth in the conference with 8.1 tackles/game. Senior defensive end Deron Minor (5-10, 235, Elmont, N.Y./Elmont) has 47 tackles (29 solo, 8.0 TFL, 4.0 sacks), and junior linebacker Angelo Mancini (5-7, 210, West Hartford, Conn./Conard) has 36 tackles (18 solo, 5.0 TFL). 

Western Connecticut posted a 4-6 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the NJAC during the 2007 season.
