MADISON, N.J. – Despite a gutsy effort during several of the singles matches, the William Paterson tennis team (1-6) lost at Drew (3-3), 8-1, Oct. 8.

Freshman Meghan Crampton (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) and junior Evelyn Tam (Paterson, N.J./Passaic Tech) combined for a hard-fought 9-7 victory at second doubles. Several other players also pressed hard for singles wins. Junior Lisa Varacallo (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) posted 3-6, 5-7 scores at second singles, senior Joanna Jakobik (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) pressed to three sets at third singles (1-6, 6-4, 3-6), sophomore Delnaz Shalforoosh (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Regional-Demarest) lost 5-7, 4-6 at fifth, and freshman Kimberly Seabeck (Montague, N.J./Port Jervis) went to a tiebreaker at sixth singles (6-2, 5-7, 4-10).

The Pioneers will host Saint Elizabeth Thursday, Oct. 9, at 5:00 p.m.
