Volleyball Falls in Close Match at Rowan, 3-1

Helfrich Leads Pioneers with 13 Kills, 25 Digs

GLASSBORO, N.J. – The Rowan volleyball team (8-11, 1-3 NJAC) defeated William Paterson (10-4, 2-3 NJAC), 3-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match Oct. 7.

Rowan won with set scores of 21-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-23. For the Pioneers, junior middle hitter Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) posted 13 kills and 25 digs. Freshman setter/outside hitter Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) registered 15 digs, 13 assists and nine kills. Junior opposite hitter Samantha Reed (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) chipped in with 19 digs and eight kills. Sophomore setter Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) accumulated 13 digs and eight assists, and senior opposite hitter Mailyn Rodriguez (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) tallied 23 digs.

Rowan outside hitter Alexis Louie led the way with 11 kills, 15 digs and three service aces. Outside hitter Rachel Emig added nine kills, while middle blockers Krista Hendrickson and Chelsea Bowman each had eight. Libero Casey Roselle compiled 37 digs. Setter Chrissy McKay totaled 29 assists and 13 digs. Outside hitter Karen Ramirez and defensive specialist Samantha Labriola contributed with 13 and 11 digs, respectively.

William Paterson returns home to face John Jay Thursday, Oct. 9, at 7:00 p.m.
