Box Score

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sophomore Jennie Hara (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) scored her second goal of the season 4:35 into overtime as she beat the diving Valiant goalie, lifting William Paterson (8-3) to a 2-1 extra-time win at Manhattanville (4-5) Oct. 3.

Senior Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) came in on goalie Lauren Gagnon's right side as Hara came to the middle. The Valiant keeper came out to stop Hall, who was able to slip the ball to Hara for the game-winning goal.

Less than four minutes into the game, Manhattanville took a 1-0 lead when Maura Bruen found Abbe Grimes on a crossing pass, and Grimes beat William Paterson goalie Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The Valiants looked to make it 2-0 midway through the first half when Alyssa Coughlan put a penalty-corner shot on net that Auger had to knock away with her blocker. The Valiants outshot the Pioneers 5-3 during the first half.

In the second half, the Manhattanville defense held William Paterson scoreless for five minutes during a two-man advantage for the Pioneers, as two Valiants were sent off with yellow cards. William Paterson had three scoring chances during the time and Gagnon made saves on each of them to preserve the 1-0 Manhattanville lead.

With 19 minutes to play in the second half, Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) had a wide open net and put a shot on, but it was saved by Gagnon. Shortly thereafter, William Paterson was awarded a penalty stroke Hall converted successfully, shooting low and to Gagnon's right for her 13th goal of the year.

With under three minutes left in regulation, Manhattanville was awarded a free hit just outside the circle and Bruen's hit went to Kirsten Spelman, who fired a shot that hit off the outside of the cage, barely missing a goal.

Gagnon made one save in overtime before Hara's game winner and finished the contest with seven stops. Auger made four saves in the victory for the Pioneers.

William Paterson will host No. 11 Montclair State Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7:00 p.m.
