WAYNE, N.J. – The William Paterson women's swimming and diving team (1-1) earned its first victory of the season, a 100-85 triumph against St. Joseph's-Long Island (0-1) Oct. 28 in the Pioneers' home opener.
Three Pioneers were double winners, led by senior
Grace McKay's (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) first-place efforts in the 50 free (25.91) and 100 fly (1:02.84). Freshman
Brett Kuchin (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) touched first in the 200 IM (2:28.63) and the 100 breast (1:13.54), and sophomore
Lauren Horowitz (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was the winner of the 500 (5:59.65) and 1,000 (12:24.07) frees.
Freshman
Lesly Mendoza (Passaic, N.J./Paramus Catholic) earned her first career victory with a win in the 200 free (2:13.38), as did sophomore
Tara Graham (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Hills) with a win in the 100 back (1:11.71). Senior
Cathy Hartwell (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) finished first in the 100 free (57.13), and junior
Giana Albruzzese (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) was the winner of the one-meter dive (146.77).
William Paterson will return to action Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational. The Pioneer women have won the last three titles at the event, while the WP men have taken home the crown two of the last three years.
