Football to Finish Road Swing at No. 9 SUNY Cortland Saturday

Pioneers, Red Dragons to Meet Oct. 25 at 1:00 p.m.

William Paterson (2-4, 1-4 NJAC) will finish a two-game road swing Saturday, Oct. 25, at No. 9 SUNY Cortland (6-0, 6-0 NJAC). Kickoff at the Cortland Stadium Complex (6,500) will be at 1:00 p.m. A live radio broadcast of the game will be available online at www.wxhc.com.

SCOUTING WILLIAM PATERSON
William Paterson is 2-4 overall and 1-4 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play following a 24-7 road loss to The College of New Jersey (3-2, 3-3 NJAC) Oct. 18. 

Junior Matt Marshall (6-3, 195, Burlington, N.J./Burlington City) is 117-for-204 (.574) for 1,321 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions under center. He ranks fourth in the NJAC in passing yards/game (220.2 yards/game). 

Senior Shaun Puluse (5-10, 210, Haledon, N.J./Passaic Tech), a 2007 honorable-mention all-NJAC selection, leads the Pioneers' ground game with 93 carries for 364 yards (3.9 yards/attempt) and a score, averaging 60.7 yards/game to rank seventh in the conference. He has also caught 11 passes for 39 yards and a TD. Junior Joel Rivera (6-1, 190, Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken), the Sept. 28 NJAC and ECAC Southeast Region Offensive Player of the Week, has caught a league-best 46 passes (7.7 per game,
tied-12th in Division III) for 629 yards and five touchdowns. His 104.8 receiving yards/game rate third in the NJAC (23rd in NCAA), and his 131.0 all-purpose yards/game rank sixth in the conference statistics. At Rowan Sept. 27, he established new school records with 16 catches and 226 yards. 

Junior linebacker and 2007 second-team all-NJAC pick Jared Burke (6-1, 220, Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) leads the Pioneers with 48 total tackles (24 solo, 8.0 TFL, 1.5 sacks). He is fifth in the NJAC in tackles/game (8.0), tied for sixth in TFL/game (1.33), and has added a forced fumble and a blocked PAT. Sophomore defensive lineman Dyon Moore (6-2, 260, Brooklyn, N.Y./Hudson Catholic) has made 39 stops (17 solo, 21st in NJAC with 6.5 tackles/game), is tied for the team lead with 8.0 TFL (1.33 pg, tied-sixth in league), and owns 3.0 sacks (seventh in NJAC). Moore, the Sept. 7 NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, has forced a conference-best three fumbles, and has recovered a pair (0.33 pg, tied-fourth in league). Senior linebacker Mike Lamego (6-1, 235, North Arlington, N.J./Queen of Peace) has 35 tackles (15 solo, 4.5 TFL, two INTs, two fumbles recovered), while junior defensive lineman Keith Sayball (6-0, 220, Milford, Conn./Foran) has made 32 stops (14 solo, 6.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks) and is tied for 12th in the NJAC statistics in TFL/game (1.0), and tied for 17th in sacks/game (0.33). 

The Pioneers returned 51 letterwinners, eight offensive starters and six defensive starters from a 2007 team that posted a 5-5 overall record and a 3-4 mark in NJAC play.

SCOUTING SUNY CORTLAND 
The Red Dragons are 6-0 overall and 6-0 in NJAC play following a 41-14 home victory against Western Connecticut Oct. 18. 

Senior quarterback Ray Miles (6-2, Port Byron, N.Y. /Port Byron) is 86-for-142 (.606) for 1,427 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. Senior Andrew Giuliano (5-10, Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) has carried 160 times for 821 yards (5.1 yards/carry) and 13 touchdowns, while senior Zacc Guaragno (6-2, Lasing, N.Y./Lasing) has caught a team-best 24 passes for 426 yards and four scores. Senior Eric Hajnos (6-2, Grand Island, N.Y. /Grand Island) has 23 receptions for team-high 461 yards and four touchdowns. 

Senior linebacker Jim Smith (5-11, Nanuet, N.Y. /Nanuet) leads the Red Dragon defense with 52 tackles (22 solo, 4.5 TFL, 1.0 sack). Sophomore linebacker Brian Haas (6-0, East Aurora, N.Y./St. Francis) follows with 45 tackles (15 solo, 5.5 TFL, 1 INT), while senior defensive lineman Ben Nagle (6-4, Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute) has 25 tackles (15 solo), nine for a loss. 

SUNY Cortland posted a 8-3 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the NJAC during the 2007 season, winning the ECAC Northeast Bowl with a 23-7 win against Union Nov. 11 in Cortland, N.Y.
