WAYNE, N.J. – The Hunter volleyball team (11-1) used a 29-assist effort from Stephanie Broome to earn a 3-0 victory at William Paterson (10-3) Oct. 2 at the Rec Center.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair, one that Hunter led 14-15 until Amanda Kamm served nine straight points to lead the Hawks to a 25-15 victory. Hunter then jumped out to a 9-3 edge during the second set, and leading 12-14, the Hawks scored four straight points en route to a 25-17 win. Hunter finished the match with a 25-14 victory in the third set.
Freshman
Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) led William Paterson with 10 kills, 10 assists and six digs. Junior
Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) added 10 kills and seven digs, classmate
Amanda Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) collected a team-best eight digs, and sophomore
Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) posted eight assists.
Kamm paced the Hawks with 16 kills, adding seven assists and five digs. Broome added 12 digs and seven kills to her 29 assists, while Olga Petrenko and Melissa Hernandez each added 10 digs.
William Paterson will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Rowan at 7:00 p.m.
