Box Score

EWING, N.J. – William Paterson (10-2-1, 4-2-1 NJAC) suffered a 2-0 setback at The College of New Jersey (9-4-1, 4-2-1 NJAC) in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) women's soccer action Oct. 18.

The two teams are now tied for third place in the conference standings with 13 points apiece and two league matches remaining. With the win, however, TCNJ holds a potential tiebreaker if the teams are still tied at the end of the season. The top six teams will qualify for the NJAC Tournament.

TCNJ opened the scoring with 8:13 left in the opening half on a play that started on a long throw-in by freshman Annie McCarthy. McCarthy's throw went deep into the penalty area and was headed by senior Coleen Weber to the far post, where senior Erin Cunliffe knocked in her team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Just before the half, TCNJ tacked on one more marker as senior Laura Delaney headed in a corner kick from freshman Nikki Migliori. That goal came with just 38 seconds showing on the clock.

TCNJ keeper Jessica Clarke made the two-goal advantage hold up as she finished with three saves for her fourth shutout of the season. In goal for the Pioneers, junior Meaghan Baker (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) kept her team close, making nine stops. Her best two came early in the second half as she made a diving save on TCNJ's Casey Caruso, and then quickly collected herself to stop a second attempt from point-blank range.

The Pioneers return home to face the College of Staten Island Monday, Oct. 20, in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
