Megan Maher (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) and junior
Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) earned selections to the Gothic Knights Invitational All-Tournament Team Oct. 18, leading the William Paterson volleyball team (16-6) to a 2-1 record at the annual event held at New Jersey City University.
The Pioneers began the day with a 25-8, 25-3, 25-11 win against York, N.Y. (4-18). Maher posted 11 kills, sophomore
Jillian Bronowich (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) collected 16 assists, and Helfrich added 11 digs.
William Paterson fell to CCNY (16-11) during the second match of the day, 19-25, 20-25, 22-25. Helfrich led WP with 14 kills, Maher chipped in 11 assists, six kills and eight digs, junior
Samantha Reed (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) posted 11 digs, Bronowich added nine assists and six digs, and freshman
Chi Chi Okeke (Newark, N.J./Science Park) added eight digs.
The Pioneers finished the day with a 25-11, 25-16, 25-11 victory against Rutgers-Newark (2-21) in the third-place match. Helfrich and Maher each had six kills, three assists and four digs. Bronowich tallied 13 assists and nine digs, and Reed collected 14 digs and six service aces.
William Paterson will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 21, hosting Richard Stockton at 7:00 p.m.
