UNION, N.J. – The William Paterson tennis team (2-7, 0-4 NJAC) lost in a hard-fought match at Kean (6-7, 1-4 NJAC), 5-4, Oct. 15.

Junior Lisa Varacallo (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) was a double winner for the Pioneers, combining with senior Rachel Menzzopane (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) for an 8-3 win at first doubles before battling back from a 2-9 deficit during the tiebreaker to win 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 at second singles.

Junior Heidi Busch (Lakehurst, N.J./Manchester Twp.) was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at fourth singles for William Paterson, while Meghan Crampton (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) was a 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) winner at fifth singles.

The Pioneers will finish their 2008 season Saturday, Oct. 18, at Richard Stockton at 1:00 p.m.
