Pioneers Rally for 66-60 Victory at Ramapo

Cousins Leads WP with 15 Points

Seve Cousins led three Pioneers in double figures with 15 points at Ramapo.

MAHWAH, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (13-3, 5-0 NJAC) scored the final seven points of the game to come back for a 66-60 win at Ramapo (7-8, 2-3 NJAC) Jan. 23. 
 
Trailing 28-18 at halftime, the Pioneers began the second half with a 12-4 run to pull within two (32-30, 16:24), but the Roadrunners answered with a 12-3 burst of their own to again build a double-digit lead (44-33, 9:39). William Paterson fought back to tie the contest at 47-47 with 5:59 to play, a rally capped by an Abdoulaye Ouedraogo (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) basket, but Ramapo would not fold, twice pushing ahead by four during the next 4:26. 
 
Senior Joey Spiegel (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) drained a three to make it a 60-59 score with 1:11 on the clock, and a Jason Cameron (Cliffside Park, N.J./Cliffside Park) jumper gave WP the lead at 61-60 with 48 seconds to play. Two Cameron free throws (63-60, 0:13), followed by a 1-for-2 trip to the line by Gabriel Paul (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) one second later and two more free throws by Cameron with four seconds remaining ,gave the Pioneers the victory. The Roadrunners were 0-for-1 from the field with three turnovers during the game's final 51 seconds.
 
Senior Seve Cousins (Haledon, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) led three Pioneers in double figures with a career-best 15 points. Cameron had 14 tallies and three assists, while Spiegel added 14 points and five steals. Paul led WP on the boards with eight rebounds and he chipped in nine points.
 
The Pioneers will next play Saturday, Jan. 26, at home against The College of New Jersey at 3:00 p.m.
