MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Sophomores
Joseph Ellis (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) and
Abdoulaye Ouedraogo (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) each scored 18 points to lead the William Paterson men's basketball team (11-3, 3-0 NJAC) to a 69-59 victory at local rival Montclair State (8-7, 2-2 NJAC) Jan. 16.
Ouedraogo was 9-for-14 (.643) from the floor for his career-high 18 points, and posted his seventh double-double of the season with his career-best 17 rebounds. Ellis also established a new career high, making six of 12 (.500) field goals for his 18 tallies.
William Paterson took excellent care of the basketball, turning it over just eight times while forcing 17 Red Hawk miscues. WP outscored MSU 21-8 off turnovers, 14-7 in second-chance points, and 30-22 in points in the paint.
Leading 33-30 at halftime, the Pioneers seized control with a 14-5 run to begin the second half (47-35, 15:59)., and that lead never fell below six for the remainder of the contest.
The Pioneers will return to the Rec Center Saturday, Jan. 19, hosting New Jersey City at 3:00 p.m.
