WAYNE , N.J. – Thanks to a dominant effort on both ends of the field, the William Paterson field hockey team (1-1) earned a 2-0 victory against Manhattanville (1-1) Sept. 2 at Wightman Stadium.
The Pioneers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, cashing in on an odd-player break when junior
Meghan Hall (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) knocked in
Amber Scott's (Palmyra, N.J./Palmyra) rebound with 23:02 to play in the first half.
William Paterson dominated for the rest of the period, owning a 16-0 advantage in shots and a 10-0 edge in penalty corners at halftime. In fact, the Pioneers' kept Manhattanville from registering a shot until 15 minutes into the second half, as the WP's final margins were 25-1 on shots and 19-0 on corners.
The same two players teamed up in the 59th minute for the second goal of the game when Hall delivered a perfect pass across the circle to the back post, and a waiting Scott knocked it in for her second goal in as many days.
Sophomore
Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made one save for the Pioneers. Junior Lauren Gagnon had 14 stops for the Valiants.
“It was nice to see how we responded after yesterday('s loss),” said fourth-year head coach
Lindsay Bard. “To come out and play relentlessly, both on offense and defense, was great. The players moved as one unit all over the field, and that was a big and welcome change from yesterday.”
The Pioneers will return to action Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Wilkes at 4:30 p.m.
