KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The William Paterson softball team (8-4) split its final pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games March 15 in Kissimmee, Fla. The Pioneers fell to the U.S. Coast Guard, 7-3, but bounced back to defeat Wisconsin-Stout, 8-0.
Nine errors were the Pioneers' undoing in their first game, but William Paterson tightened up its defense in the nightcap, led by junior Diana Schraer's (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) complete game two-hitter. Freshman Christine Zippler (Blackwood, N.J./Washington Twp.) was 3-for-3 at the plate, freshman Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) was 2-for-3, and sophomore Ana Abourashed (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.
The Pioneers received 19 votes (26th) in the first NFCA Top 25 Poll of the season (March 8).
William Paterson will play its first home game of the season Thursday, March 22, when the Pioneers host Wilkes for a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
