Ouedraogo's Double-Double Paces WP in 77-51 Win

Pioneers Breeze Past FDU-Florham

Abdoulaye Ouedraogo's 17 points and 16 rebounds helped lead WP to a 77-51 victory against FDU-Florham.

WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore forward Abdoulaye Ouedraogo (Newark, N.J./Newark Science) collected career highs of 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the William Paterson men's basketball team (7-1) to a 77-51 victory against FDU-Florham (1-9) Dec. 12 at WP's Rec Center. 

A 22-8 advantage in points in the paint, as well as a 22-5 edge in points off turnovers, helped the Pioneers build a 41-22 halftime lead. That lead grew to as many as 36 (69-33, 8:57) in the second half before the William Paterson starters were lifted in favor of the reserves. For the game, the Pioneers were 30-of-73 (.411) from the floor, dishing 20 assists while turning the ball over just 11 times. William Paterson's defense forced 25 FDU-Florham turnovers and limited the Devils to 31.0 (13-42) percent shooting, including a 2-for-14 (.143) effort from beyond the arc.

Senior guard Joey Spiegel (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) scored a team-high 22 points for WP, posting four assists while collecting three steals. Senior guard Jason Cameron (Cliffside Park, N.J./Cliffside Park) had nine points and seven assists, while classmate Seve Cousins (Haledon, N.J./St. Joseph's Regional) scored nine tallies on 4-for-5 shooting (.800). Ouedraogo made seven of eight (.875) attempts for his 17 points and blocked three shots.

FDU-Florham's Ryan McPherson led all scorers with 24 points. Ricky Fetske added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Devils.

William Paterson will finish its pre-holiday schedule with a home game against Lehman Friday, Dec. 21, at 7:00 p.m.
