Pioneers Break Pool Records at Arcadia

Cathy Hartwell set two new Lenox Pool records with her swims in the 50 (26.10) and 100 (56.50) frees.

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Thanks to establishing six new facility records at Arcadia's Lenox Pool, the William Paterson men's (5-1) and women's (8-1) swimming and diving teams recorded a pair of team victories against the Knights Dec. 1.

The Pioneer men earned a 106-65 win. Sophomore Vojtech Karas (Brno, Czech Republic/Ludvika Danka) broke the pool records in the 200 IM (2:05.41) and 50 free (22.31), and Karas, Brian Fisher (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.), David Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) and Matt Lorah (New Oxford, Pa./Gettysburg) established a new best in the 200 free relay (1:35.44). Caputo was a double winner, touching first in the 200 free (1:54.95) and 100 back (1:02.68), sophomore Danny Lynch (Rockaway, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) finished first in the 500 (5:29.89) and 1,000 (11:17.37) frees, sophomore Kirk Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) won the 100 breast (1:05.22), and freshman Evan Seftel (Montville, N.J./Montville) was the winner in the 100 free (52.96).

William Paterson's women were victorious, 99-92. Junior Cathy Hartwell (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) set two new Lenox Pool records with her swims in the 50 (26.10) and 100 (56.50) frees, as did classmate Grace McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) in the 100 back (1:04.14). Freshman Lauren Horowitz (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) placed first in the 500 (5:54.07) and 1,000 (11:59.03) frees, junior Caitlin Rotondo (Brick, N.J./Methacton) touched first in the 200 IM (2:26.31) and 100 breast (1:14.73), and senior Nicole Szakacs (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) won the 100 fly (1:09.25).

The Pioneer men will next compete Tuesday, Dec. 4, at NJIT at 6:00 p.m. Both the men and women will travel to Adelphi Saturday, Dec. 8, for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
