Pioneers Earn Victory against Lehman

Vojtech Karas was a double winner in the 100 back (57.13) and 200 free (1:51.86)

WAYNE , N.J. – The William Paterson men's (4-1) and women's (6-1) swimming and diving teams each earned victories against visiting Lehman Nov. 15 at Wightman Pool.

The Pioneer women won every event in a 137-61 victory. Freshman Kirsten Shea (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Twp.) earned her first college victory in the 200 IM with a time of 2:29.88, while senior Katelyn Esposito (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Twp.) registered her first win of the year in the 100 back (1:09.04). Freshman Lauren Horowitz (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) placed first in the 500 (5:53.00) and 1,000 (12:06.67) frees, junior Cathy Hartwell (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) was the winner of the 100 (57.41) and 200 (2:07.20) frees, classmate Grace McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) posted an excellent time to win the 100 fly (1:05.36), and junior Caitlin Rotondo (Brick, N.J./Methacton) touched first in the 50 free (27.04) and 100 back (1:14.19). Sophomore Giana Albruzzese (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) won the one-meter (170.02) and three-meter (171.60) dives, and the Pioneers won both the 200 free (1:53.40) and 200 medley (1:58.92) relays.

The Pioneer men earned a 121-110 win. Junior David Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) was a double winner, finishing first in the 500 (5:24.32) and 1,000 (11:12.15) frees, as was sophomore Vojtech Karas (Brno, Czech Republic/Ludvika Danka) in the 100 back (57.13) and 200 free (1:51.86). Freshman Evan Seftel (Montville, N.J./Montville) was the winner in the 50 free (23.42), and sophomore Kirk Smith (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) touched first in the 200 IM (2:09.93) and 100 back (1:06.68). Junior Michael O'Shea (Edgewater, N.J./Leonia) was the winner of the one-meter (212.70) and three-meter (196.80) dives, and the 200 free relay of Karas, Caputo, Brian Fisher (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Twp.) and Seftel posted a winning time of 1:33.39.

The Pioneers will enjoy an extended break for the Thanksgiving holiday. William Paterson's women will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 27, at home against Hunter at 6:00 p.m., and both teams will compete at Arcadia Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1:00 p.m.
