PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The William Paterson women's swimming team (1-1) earned its first victory of the season, a 106-71 triumph at St. Joseph's-Long Island Oct. 30.
Junior
Cathy Hartwell (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) was one of two double winners for the Pioneers, earning victories in the 100 (58.1) and 200 (2:11.6) frees. Freshman
Lauren Horowitz (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) was the other, touching first in the 500 (6:04.69) and 1,000 (12:12.22) frees. Junior
Donivyn Schmidt (Hackettstown, N.J./Warren Hills) won the 50 free (27.53), classmate
Caitlin Rotondo (Brick, N.J./Methacton) was first in the 200 IM (2:30.6), while senior
Jessica Lyon (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock) won the 100 breaststroke (1:16.7). Junior
Grace McKay (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) touched first in the 100 backstroke (1:06.1), and senior
Nicole Szakacs (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) was a winner in the 100 butterfly (1:09.7).
McKay, Rotondo, Szakacs and Hartwell won the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:02.37, while McKay,
Jennifer Birkbeck (Absecon, N.J./Holy Spirit), Schmidt and Lyon won the 200 free relay (1:54.6).
The William Paterson men and women will compete at Drew Saturday, Nov. 3, at 1:00 p.m.
