The William Paterson football team (2-4, 0-3 NJAC) travels to western New York to face Buffalo State (2-4, 1-3 NJAC) Saturday, Oct. 20, at 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING WILLIAM PATERSON
William Paterson is 2-4 overall and 0-3 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play this season following a 21-13 loss to visiting No. 24 The College of New Jersey (5-1, 3-0 NJAC) Oct. 13.

Senior Dan Lamego (North Arlington, N.J./Queen of Peace) leads the Pioneer offense, completing 64 of 122 passes for 729 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions. Senior Ira Guilford (Jersey City, N.J./Hoboken) has carried 82 times for a team-best 208 yards and three touchdowns, and sophomore Joel Rivera (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken), the Sept. 16 ECAC Southeast Region and NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, has caught 18 passes for 259 yards and five touchdowns in five appearances. Senior Kareen Moon (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner), who ranks first nationally in kickoff return average (38.1 yards/return), has caught 17 passes for 216 yards.

Sophomore linebacker Jared Burke (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) leads the Pioneers with 42 total tackles (26 solo), and has added a sack and a blocked kick. Senior defensive lineman Brian Burd (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury), the Oct. 14 NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, has made 39 tackles (22 solo, 11.0 for loss), recovered a fumble, forced a fumble and blocked a punt, while junior linebacker Mike Lamego (North Arlington, N.J./Queen of Peace) has recorded 31 tackles (25 solo) and two sacks.

Senior Ricky Krautman (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Ramapo) has punted 43 times for 1,490 yards (34.7 average), landing 12 inside the 20-yard line with just three touchbacks. He has also made six of nine field-goal attempts and 10 of 11 PATs.

The Pioneers returned seven offensive starters and five defensive starters from a 2006 team that posted a 1-9 overall record and a 1-6 mark in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play. However, that record was a bit deceiving, as William Paterson had chances to win almost every ballgame. Five of the losing margins were seven or fewer points, and in back-to-back outings, William Paterson was defeated on the final play of the game. A field goal as time expired gave Western Connecticut a 20-17 win in Wayne Oct. 7, and an overtime touchdown lifted The College of New Jersey to a 27-21 victory
Oct. 14.

Injuries also played a major role, particularly under center. Three different Pioneers started at quarterback during the 2006 campaign, and a total of five different players called the signals during the 10-game schedule.

SCOUTING BUFFALO STATE
The Bengals are 2-4 overall and 1-3 in NJAC play this season following a 48-27 loss at Rowan (4-2, 2-1 NJAC) Oct. 13.

Senior Dan Aquilio leads the Bengal offense, completing 102 of 178 passes for 1,339 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions. Senior Dan Lopez has rushed 119 times for a team-best 496 yards and five touchdowns, while junior Greg Meyer has caught 31 passes for 586 yards and nine touchdowns.

Sophomore linebacker Jermaine Rose has made 52 tackles (17 solo), including 5.5 tackles for loss, and two interceptions. Senior linebacker Darryl Davis has 51 total stops (13 solo), and junior linebacker Matt Pacana has added 47 total tackles (25 solo) and two forced fumbles.

MOON BECOMES CAREER RECEPTIONS LEADER
Senior wide receiver Kareen Moon (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan E. Wagner) has already left a permanent impression on the WPU career record books. Against TCNJ Oct. 13, 2007, he became the school's career receptions leader (138), breaking the previous mark of 137 (Bryant Richardson, 2000-03). At The College of New Jersey Oct. 14, 2006, he became the program's leader in receiving yards, breaking the previous record of 1,346 (Lance Sisco, 1975-78), and he finished the season with 1,774 yards.
Moon currently has 1,990 yards, 139 receptions and 14 career touchdown receptions, just two away from matching the school record of 16 (Lance Sisco, 1975-78).

BURD NAMED NJAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
William Paterson senior defensive lineman Brian Burd (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week Oct. 14.

Burd made a game-high 11 total tackles in a 21-13 loss to No. 24 The College of New Jersey Oct. 13. He made seven solo stops, and registered 4.5 tackles for a total loss of 18 yards, including two sacks for -11 yards.
