Pioneers Finish Second at Gothic Knights Invitational

JERSEY CITY , N.J. – Sophomore Kelly Helfrich (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) and senior Dana Hansen (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) were named to the All-Tournament Team as the William Paterson volleyball team (18-7) finished second at New Jersey City's Gothic Knights Invitational Oct. 13, posting a 2-2 record.

William Paterson began the day with a 30-5, 30-10, 30-15 victory against York (N.Y.). Helfrich had 12 kills, Hansen posted six kills and 18 assists, senior outside hitter Tamara Miller (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) contributed seven kills, and sophomore Samantha Reed (Dumont, N.J./Dumont) had six kills and 10 digs for the Pioneers.

New Jersey City defeated William Paterson in a non-conference match, 30-23, 30-14, 30-11. Reed collected eight digs, Miller had 10 digs, Hansen contributed eight assists and Helfrich chipped in with five kills.

The Pioneers fell to FDU-Florham, 24-30, 21-30, 16-30. Helfrich had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs, Reed posted 21 digs, Hansen had 17 assists and five kills, and sophomore Amanda Mitchell (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) chipped in with 13 digs.

William Paterson finished the day with a 30-14, 30-19, 30-20 win against Lehman. Freshman Stephanie Fox (Hawthorne, N.J./Paramus Catholic) contributed seven kills, Miller posted 12 digs and seven kills, junior Mailyn Rodriguez (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) had 13 digs, and Helfrich added 12 kills.

William Paterson will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Richard Stockton at 7:00 p.m.
