MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The William Paterson men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost at Montclair State Jan. 20.
In their first action since Dec. 9, the Pioneer women (8-2) fell to the Red Hawks 130-104, while the men (5-3) dropped a 121-102 decision.
Sophomore
Grace McKay (Fairlawn, N.J./Fairlawn) won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:20.56, while junior
Jessica Lyon (Pequannock, N.J./ Pequannock) was first in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.75). Freshman
Giana Albruzzese (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) won both the one-meter required (129.30) and optional (145.55) dives, and McKay, Lyon,
Colleen Takemoto (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) and
Cathy Hartwell (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) placed first in the 400 freestyle relay (4:19.59).
Freshman
Vojtech Karas (Brno, Czech Republic/Luduika Danka) was a double individual winner, touching first in the 100 (48.92) and 200 (1:50.51) freestyles. Sophomore
Michael O'Shea (Edgewater, N.J./Leonia) won the one-meter required (135.90) and optional (210.20) dives, and J
oe Shirrman (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush),
David Caputo (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis),
Todd Correia (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Boro) and Karas earned the victory in the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.12).
The William Paterson men and women will get back to action Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Queens at 6:00 p.m.
