Pioneers Hang Tough Before Falling at Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J . – William Paterson (8-2) hung tough with Division I opponent Seton Hall, trailing by just six early in the second half, but the Pioneers eventually fell to the Pirates 83-56 Dec. 15 at SHU's Walsh Gym.

Junior Jason Cameron's (Cliffside Park, N.J./Cliffside Park) three-pointer gave the Pioneers an early 7-4 lead (16:29), but Seton Hall responded and pulled ahead 29-15 with 7:28 remaining in the first half. However, William Paterson ended the half with a 13-4 run, capped by a Shawn Colwell (Irvington, N.J./Irvington) layup to make it a four-point game (39-25), and following a late basket by the Pirates, the Pioneers trailed by just six (41-35) at the break.

Junior Joey Spiegel's (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) three at the 16:06 mark of the second half had the Pioneers within striking distance at 44-38, but Seton Hall ripped off a 21-2 run to take control of the contest.

Cameron paced the Pioneers with 16 points on 4-for-7 shooting (3-for-5 from beyond the arc), and added two steals and five rebounds. Spiegel was the only other player in double figures for William Paterson with 11 points, adding a team-best seven rebounds.

The game was a homecoming for William Paterson head coach Jose Rebimbas, who is in his 12th season as the Pioneers' head coach. A 1990 graduate of Seton Hall, he played on the Pirates' 1989 team that advanced to the national championship game of the NCAA Tournament.
