WAYNE, N.J. (NOVEMBER 4, 2006) – The William Paterson football team (1-8, 1-5 NJAC) fell to Montclair State (6-3, 4-2 NJAC), 44-9, Nov. 4 in the Pioneers' final home game of the season.

Junior Ricky Krautman ( Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) gave the Pioneers an early 3-0 lead, capping a 15-play drive with a 31-yard field goal 8:46 into the first period. But, the Red Hawks took control of the contest from that point forward, building a 21-3 advantage by halftime. Montclair State forced a fumble and recovered the ball on a WPU punt return, and on the very next play Michael Jump found Fred Carter for a 49-yard touchdown, (7-3, 4:07, first). Another Jump-to-Carter connection, this one 24 yards, made it a 14-3 score with 11:41 remaining in the first half, and a 39-yard strike from Jump to A.J. Letizia gave the Red Hawks a 21-3 edge with 3:12 on the clock.

Ryan McCoach scampered in from four yards out with 8:24 to play in the third, pushing MSU ahead 27-3 after the PAT kick failed. The Red Hawks later scored 17 points in a 3:14 span in the fourth quarter to end the Pioneers' comeback hopes.

William Paterson's lone score of the second half came via a three-yard pass from freshman quarterback Bryan Petite (Center Reach, N.Y./Newfield) to junior wide receiver Kareen Moon (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan B. Wagner) with 3:44 to play.

Petite completed 13 of 29 passes for 111 yards, one touchdown and his first career interception, and added 35 yards on two carries. Sophomore Mike Vicci (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) rushed 15 times for 30 yards, while Moon caught eight passes for 71 yards and one touchdown.

Senior Todd Gorski (Howell, N.J./Freehold Twp.) led the WPU defense with 10 tackles (six solo, four assisted). Freshman Jared Burke ( Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./ Egg Harbor Twp.) added eight stops, and senior Dan Casasnovas ( Belleville, N.J./Passaic Valley) had seven tackles for the Pioneers.

Jump completed 10 of 20 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Montclair State offense. McCoach gained 154 yards on 32 carries, and Carter caught four passes for 103 yards. MSU head coach Rick Giancola earned his 100th career NJAC victory with the triumph against the Pioneers (100-36).

Prior to the contest, the Pioneers honored their eight senior student-athletes, who played their final game at Wightman Stadium today – Casasnovas, Shadee Davis (New Brunswick, N.J./New Brunswick), Chris DiNapoli (Lake Hiawatha, N.J./Parsippany), Donald Dougherty (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), Gorski, Kyle Harkins (Milltown, N.J./Spotswood), Ed McDonough (North Arlington, N.J./North Arlington) and David Packard (Howell, N.J./Howell).
