JAMAICA, N.Y. (NOVEMBER 25, 2006) – The No. 7 William Paterson men's basketball team (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling 65-56 at York (N.Y.) College Nov. 25.

The Cardinals led by two at the break (31-29) and were ahead for most of the second half, but with 2:19 to play junior Joey Spiegel (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) converted a layup, giving the Pioneers a one-point advantage (56-55). However, that lead was short-lived, as York ended the game with 10 unanswered points and WPU missed its final five shots of the contest.

Senior all-American Luis Martinez (Passaic, N.J./Clifton) led the Pioneers with 22 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Spiegel added a team-high four assists.

The Pioneers were ranked seventh by d3hoops.com, third by DIII News and ninth by Street & Smith's in the groups' preseason national polls.

William Paterson will get back to action Monday, Nov. 27, at Lehman at 7:00 p.m.
