The Pioneers (1-6, 1-3 NJAC) will look to build upon a 27-20 victory against Buffalo State last week, traveling to Union, N.J., to face Kean (4-3, 2-2 NJAC) Saturday, Oct. 28, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference clash. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Kean Alumni Stadium.

SCOUTING WILLIAM PATERSON
The Pioneers are 1-6 overall and 1-3 in NJAC play following a 27-20 victory against Buffalo State (1-6, 0-5 NJAC) Oct. 21. William Paterson has faced a daunting schedule, taking on three teams that advanced to the 2005 NCAA Championship.

Sophomore Mike Vicci (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) has caught a team-best 31 balls for 172 yards, adding 204 yards on 61 carries, while freshman Kieron Gardiner (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield) has rushed 39 times for 149 yards. Junior Kareen Moon (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan B. Wagner) has hauled in 18 passes for a team-high 372 yards, and freshman Bryan Petite (Center Reach, N.Y./Newfield) has completed 24 of 44 passes for 382 yards and one touchdown in his two appearances under center.

Sophomore Harold Green (Boonton, N.J./Boonton) and senior Todd Gorski (Howell, N.J./Freehold Twp.) have each posted 51 tackles to lead the WPU defense and rank tied for sixth in the NJAC. In addition to his tackle numbers, Green has also added four interceptions, 10 passes broken up, one blocked kick, one fumble recovery, three sacks and six tackles-for-loss. Senior Kyle Harkins (Milltown, N.J./Spotswood) is third for the Pioneers with 48 tackles, senior All-American Shadee Davis (New Brunswick, N.J./New Brunswick) has added 40 tackles, including six for loss, and senior Dan Casasnovas (Belleville, N.J./Passaic Valley) has 27 tackles, one fumble recovery, two interceptions and three blocked kicks.

SCOUTING KEAN
The Cougars are 4-3 overall and 2-2 in NJAC play following a 16-12 loss at No. 7 Rowan Oct. 21.

Junior A.J. Roque leads the Cougar offense, completing 116 of 197 passes for 1,570 yards, 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Freshman Jared Chunn has carried 48 times for 234 yards, while sophomore Durell Dukes has caught 35 passes for 478 yards.

Junior Ryan Staton has a team-best 55 tackles. Sophomore Guy Ulmer-Santos and freshman Jason Leeds have each tallied 45 tackles.

PETITE, ANDERSON EARN NJAC HONORS
William Paterson freshman quarterback Bryan Petite (Center Reach, N.Y./Newfield) was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Oct. 15.

Petite made his first career appearance Oct. 14, starting under center for the Pioneers in a league clash at The College of New Jersey. The 6-0, 215-pounder completed 15 of 26 passes for 245 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Petite helped engineer a WPU comeback from a 21-7 halftime deficit to a 21-21 deadlock with 4:13 to play in the third period. The Pioneers later fell in overtime, 27-21, to the host Lions.

Stephon Anderson (Hoboken, N.J./Hoboken) was named the NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Oct. 22.

Anderson recorded two interceptions, four passes defended and five solo tackles as the Pioneers defeated Buffalo State 27-20 Oct. 21. With WPU leading 17-14 and the Bengals threatening at the five-yard line in the fourth quarter, Anderson picked off a pass in the end zone and raced 100 yards for a touchdown, pushing the Pioneer lead to 24-14 and establishing a new school record for interception return yardage in the process.
